Inspiration often comes from the 'edges' – of the land, the season, the day, the light - though in this I am not unique. Coupled with this, once we get beyond the bigger picture and the obvious – and this can be a function of time, slowing down, as much as familiarity – is the ability to extract and abstract simpler compositions.
As I’ve reviewed and updated the images on the site this time, I’ve pondered their arrangement and categorisation, and indeed if there should be one. Part of me wants to break away from geographic locations, but while it is often the detailed and more abstract compositions that give me greatest satisfaction over time, I did choose the site name to reflect the ‘where’ as much as the ‘who’ and I still think it worthwhile to illustrate the range of images that can be made relative to an area.
While maintaining the galleries from favourite, revisited, sites I have now further subdivided those local to Longnor to reflect the forces and themes that shape my image making.
